Apple computer's Safari Web browser continues to gain market share.  It still checks in at number three on the most used browsers but its use is up 84 percent over the past year and 33 percent since September 2005.

This continues the Safari growth trend.  According to MarketShare,  Safari market share growth is as follows:
  • March 2006 = 3.19 percent
  • December 2005 = 3.07 percent
  • September 2005 = 2.39 percent
  • March 2005 = 1.73 percent

This trend should catch the attention of Web Developers and I expect more sites to become compatible with Safari.  The increased market share can be attributed to an increased number of Mac users.  In a January 2006 post, I stated the following:

"I expect Safari's market share to increase in January following the recent holiday shopping season and I expect the trend to continue during 2006 as Apple continues to gain popularity across most market segments."

That prediction has thus far come true and I expect Safari's market share to continue to expand as more people make the switch.  To view Safari's growth over the past year, click here
