In July 12, 2007 article, Thomas Claburn details how Apple site traffic surged 5% to a record 121 million unique viewers during the month of May.  In fact, Apple demonstrated the most growth among tht top ten sites on the web.

Switch To A Mac Commentary

This clearly demonstrates the ever-growing popularity of the Apple brand. It would be logical to conclude that many visitors were visiting Apple to investigate and learn about the iPhone.  Regardless, the surge demonstrates that many people are becoming interested in Apple's products.  The trickle down effect will ultimately lead to a larger Mac user base.
