According to a preliminary estimate from IDC that tracks the top 5 vendors in the United States for Q1 2009 (first quarter), Apple has ranked fourth experiencing a slight rise in its U.S. market share to 7.6 percent versus the 7.4 percent in the year ago quarter.  Despite this rise, IDC estimates that Apple shipped fewer Macs with a net drop of 1.2 percent to 1.13 million units.
Apple and Dell are the only two firms in the top five whose shipment estimates have dropped in Q1 2009 versus Q1 2008.  Per the IDC report:

Apple is slated to release its fiscal second quarter (Q2 2009) earnings on April 22 after the close of the U.S. stock market.  The IDC data are estimates for Apple Mac shipments whereas Apple's earnings report will detail actual Mac shipments.
