Fiscal Q4 2008 earnings: Apple sets new quarterly (2.611 million) and yearly (9.715 million) Mac shipment records
Apple released their fiscal 2008 fourth quarter earnings on Tuesday October 22 and reported that profits rose more than 26 percent to $1.14 billion on sales of $7.9 billion for the three-month period that ended on September 27, 2008. Apple shipped 2,611,000 Macintosh computers during the quarter.
New Mac shipment records
The 2,611,000 Macs represents a new record for the firm. The prior record was set in the prior quarter (Q3 2008) at 2.496 million units. The Q4 2008 numbers represent a 20.66 percent increase over Q4 2007 and a 4.61 percent increase over Q3 2008. Macs accounted for 45.9 percent of revenue during the quarter. For fiscal 2008, Apple shipped a total of 9,715,000 Macs, a level that set a new fiscal year record.

Unit Breakdown by Region and Operating Segment
The 2,611,000 Macs represents a new record for the firm. The prior record was set in the prior quarter (Q3 2008) at 2.496 million units.
