Apple today quietly updated the specifications of the entry-level white polycarbonate MacBook portable.  Apple maintained the $999 price but bumped the specifications to a 2.13GHz processor (up from 2.0GHz), a 160GB hard drive (up from $120GB), and 2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM (up from 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM).

Summary of specification updates:
  • 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 2GB DDR2 Memory (800MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 2×1GB)
  • 160GB hard drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
The white MacBook offers buyers a more compelling option when compared to the $1299 Aluminum Unibody MacBook model that offers the following specifications:
  • 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 2GB DDR3 Memory (1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 2×1GB)
  • 160GB hard drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Today's release is the second specification update this year and comes alongside Apple's 2009 Back-to-School promotion that offers qualified education buyers up to a $229 rebate when purchased alongside an eligible iPod.

The newly updated white MacBook ships within 24 hours and comes with free shipping.  Find out more about the new white MacBook here.
