Apple Computer's special media event which the company describes with the phrase "It's Showtime" occurs today, Tuesday September 12, 2006.  The event has been the subject of a lot of buzz especially after last week's updates to the iMac and Mac mini computers.

Many are expecting that today's event has more to do with the iPod and iTunes because last week's updates were released without a media event.  This is in stark contract to a Fall 2005 media event when when the company announced an update to the iMac G5.

The event is scheduled to start at 10am Pacific time at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco, California.  After Apple announced the revisions to the iMac and Mac mini last week, it has been widely expected that the company will announce the next step in it's Digital Lifestyle strategy by adding a movie download service to it's popular iTunes offering.  Other announcements are expected such as updates to the iPod line and the release of several new products that will expand Apple's footprint into the consumer electronics sector.

Regardless of what Apple plans to do at today's event, I expect that the announcements will further fuel Apple's growing popularity.
