On Monday August 17, 2009 Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster suggested that Apple will sell upwards of 2.8 million Macs in the current fiscal quarter (Q4 2009), a period that covers July, August, and September.

Munster's estimate if within range will eclipse Wall Steet's 2.65 million unit expectation.  Munster cautioned Q4 estimates are often difficult to make given that  approximately half of the quarter's Mac sales are registered in September.

2009 Back to School Promotion
The fourth quarter is often a popular quarter for the Mac maker due to the annual Back to School promotion that offers education buyers a free iPod when purchased with a new Mac.
