A short but sweet read at Yahoo news.  David Morrish, Best Buy's Senior Vice President for Merchandising is quoted as stating the following at the Best Buy annual meeting on Wednesday June 21, 2006:

"Best Buy has added Apple computers in seven stores and it's considering expanding Mac sales across the chain".

Morrish also stated that Best Buy employees who sell Macs have been trained by Apple.  As the United State's largest electronics retailer, Best Buy can help Apple expand its footprint.  Selling Macs in Best Buy locations offers Apple the ability to showcase and sell its Macintosh line of computers to a larger number of consumers, especially to those who have never visited an Apple retail location.

In my view, the program's success will rely on the following factors:

  • A highly visible and strategic location
  • Effective presentation and demonstation
  • Knowledgeable sales associates
  • Expanded participation by Best Buy to extend the program across the country

If the program is successful, it will lead to several consumers making the switch.
