Sophos Security: Consumers Should Switch to a Mac

Sophos, a leader in integrated threat management solutions, is recommending that home computer users should consider making the Switch to a Mac. The experts at SophosLabs demonstrate in the Sophos Security Threat Management Report (July 2006) that security threats to Windows based PCs have increased to such a degree that users should consider purchasing a Mac.

A powerful quote from Sophos explaining why users should switch:

"Most interestingly, new Trojans now outweigh viruses and worms by 4:1, compared to 2:1 in the first half of 2005. In addition, the continued dominance of Windows-based threats has prompted Sophos to suggest that many home users should consider switching to Apple Macs, to shield themselves from the malware onslaught."

Sophos has posted a page on thier site that shows a list of the top 10 malware threats to computers. Sophos states the following:

"All of the above malware works on Windows; none is capable of infecting Mac OS X."

In the Sophos Security Threat Management Report, Sophos indicates that the number of threats its software protects has grown by over 40,174 in just one year. Looking at the numbers, that's an increase of over 28 percent.

Sophos also states:

"Hackers remain happy to primarily target Microsoft Windows users and not spread their wings to other platforms. It seems likely that Macintosh will continue to be a safer place for computer users to be for some time to come."

Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos is quoted as stating:

"It seems likely that Macs will continue to be the safer place for computer users for some time to come - something that home users may wish to consider if they're deliberating about the next computer they should purchase."
