Ok so you're a student thinking about buying a Mac and want a free iPod (nano or up to $199 back towards another model) thanks to the 2007 Back To School Promotion.  You're also paying attention to the buzz about potential iPod updates tomorrow.  According to the Terms and Conditions of the rebate form, only existing iPods will be eligible for the rebate, new models won't be offered for the promotion.

Here's what the Terms and Conditions state in the rebate form (PDF download):

The iPod products listed below are eligible for participation in this offer. TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS OFFER, BE CERTAIN THAT THE PRODUCT YOU PURCHASE HAS ONE OF THE APPLE PART NUMBERS LISTED BELOW. IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN, PLEASE ASK YOUR SALESPERSON TO CONFIRM TO YOU THAT YOU ARE PURCHASING A PRODUCT THAT IS ELIGIBLE UNDER THIS OFFER. 2GB iPod nano, iPod shuffle, Mac mini, Apple TV, iPhone, and refurbished products are not eligible.

The eligible models and part numbers:

You may want to buy your Mac and get your free iPod ASAP because inventory of existing iPods will surely dry up soon.  You can learn more about the free iPod promotion here.

This offer might be amended tomorrow to reflect the new iPod versions. Apple would not publish part numbers of unreleased products on an older rebate form.

I don't think so. If I remember correctly, the same thing happened last year. New iPods were released on September 12, 2006 and were not eligible for the 2006 promotion that ended on September 16, 2006.
