Netflix to add Mac support by the end of 2008
In a blog posting at the Netflix website, it was hinted that Mac users will soon be able to use the "Watch Instantly" feature. The statement was as follows:
"And, for all of you Mac users (of which I am one) we've been busy working getting a solution that will allow you to watch instantly on your Mac. So hang in there - we'll have something for you by the end of the year."
When Netflix was launched, it was a web-based DVD rental service that offered subscribers the ability to rent movies via the mail. More recently however, the firm has expanded its offerings by allowing users to rent movies online and stream it over the Internet to their computers and other compatible devices via the "Watch Instantly".
Netflix has been solely focuses on the PC platform since its inception. The upcoming support for Macs is a testament that the firm has recognized the importance of the Mac user base. Furthermore, its a means for Netflix to compete with Apple's iTunes and Apple TV.
