We published a report earlier today that sheds light on a rumor that Apple may release new iMac models next week.  To understand why it makes sense, we need to look at Apple's current fiscal quarter.  Apple is participating in Q3 2008 - or in other words, the third fiscal quarter of 2008.  Apple's fiscal year runs from October to September.

Apple today unveiled MacBook Air, the world’s thinnest notebook. MacBook Air measures an unprecedented 0.16-inches at its thinnest point, while its maximum height of 0.76-inches is less than the thinnest point on competing notebooks. MacBook Air has a stunning 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display, a full-size and backlit keyboard, a built-in iSight® video camera for video conferencing, and a spacious trackpad with multi-touch gesture support so users can pinch, rotate and swipe. In his August 28, 2007 Computerworld article Gregg Keizer describes how NPD data demonstrates that Apple now sells more than one in six laptops in the United States.  A simple calculation of that statement would mean that Apple sells at least 17 percent of the laptops in the U.S.  The exact number is detailed below.

In her August 9, 2007 review, Melissa J. Perenson of PC World states that Apple's new iMac is an improvement over past iMac models.  Perenson's article continues the trend of positive Mac reviews from historically PC centric publications.

In an August 9, 2007 article, Rich Brown reports that Apple's new iMac desktop has earned a 8.2 out of 10 rating as well as the Cnet "Editors Choice" rating.  Brown states, "Apple's new iMac is the most complete and most attractive mainstream desktop on the market, all-in-one or otherwise."

In a June 12, 2007 article Eric Bangeman of Ars Technica posted a review of the new Santa Rosa based 17-inch MacBook Pro.  It's a very detailed and extensive review that's a must read for anyone who is considering the 17-inch MacBook Pro.  Bangeman often compares the new model to prior generation 17-inch models so it's a great way how the new model stacks up to older models.

This week’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada saw Apple introduce the 17-inch MacBook Pro notebook computer.  The new model is the second form factor available on the MacBook Pro Line of professional notebooks.  According to Apple, the 17-inch model delivers up to five times the performance of the prior PowerBook G4 notebook.

The model ships with the latest version of Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.6 in addition to iLife '06, Apple's Digital Life software suite that includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, GarageBand, and iWeb.
