Apple Computer Inc is recalling 1.1M batteries plus 700K sold outside U.S. due to risk of overheating. Products cover the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 laptop models sold from October 2003 through August 2006. The battery packs were made by Sony Corp.

Apple's recall follows Dell's recall of more than 4m batteries from its laptops last week.  According to Apple, "The recalled batteries are only used in 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4, and 15-inch PowerBook G4 computers and have model numbers A1061, A1078, and A1079 and serial numbers that begin with HQ441 through HQ507 and 3X446 through 3X510"
