Apple quietly upgrades 15-inch MacBook Pro processors - new 2.93GHz option, 2.66GHz now standard on high end model
In conjunction with an entire Mac desktop revamp of new consumer and pro Mac models, Apple has quietly added the option to upgrade the 15-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB shared L2 cache. This new option replaces the prior high end 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor option. Apple has also upgraded the standard processor on the high-end MacBook Pro with a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor thereby dropping the standard 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
- 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed
- 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB shared L2 cache
- 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB shared L2 cache
Previously Apple offered the following processor options on the 15-inch:
- 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed
- 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB shared L2 cache
- 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB shared L2 cache
SSD options
In addition, both the 15-inch MacBook Pro and 13-inch MacBook (unibody only) models can now be configured with a 256GB SSD (solid state drive) which was previously only an option on the 17-inch MacBook Pro.
The prices for the 256GB drive upgrades on the 15-inch MacBook Pro and 13-inch MacBook (unibody) are as follows:
- 2.0GHz unibody MacBook $900
- 2.4GHz unibody MacBook $825
- 2.4GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro $825
- 2.66GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro $750
