According to the ComScore Networks, Apple's web site attracted 31,873,000 unique visitors during September 2006, good enough for fourteenth place on ComScore's Top 50 Properties list (US).

For comparison purposes, Apple came in at number 27 (US) in September 2005 with 19,132,000 visitors.  So in just one year:

  • Apple moved up 13 spots on the Top 50 Properties list
  • Saw an increase of 12,741,000 unique visitors (year-over-year for September)
  • Representing a 66.5 percent increase (year-over-year for September)

If that's not an indication of growing popularity and/or buzz, I don't know what is.  This data from ComScore provides additional support to the notion that the Apple name and products are becoming more popular.  Note that ComScore tracks "unique" visitors so the data demonstrates that a growing number of people are visiting Apple's site.  In my view, it's also a sign that consumers are more interested in learning about the company, it's Macintosh computers, iPod digital music players, and software.  I expect that Apple will continue to become a more popular destination for web surfers.

I wonder how many vistors were potential switchers!
